Walk to Bethlehem 👟👢👞🥿
In the past our ancestor Moses led the Israelites to an unknown promised land. It was a journey that took a long time, 40 years of wandering in an unknown country.

Today we are walking to a known place Bethlehem and we are going to wander toward Advent which is 10 weeks away. Our path seems pretty clear and direct.

Each person or group will use a clothespin marked with their name and move it along the line that stretches between the windows in the sanctuary. The line is marked with Winnipeg at the beginning and Bethlehem as the end and has ribbons hanging in between.

For every hour of movement move your clothespin 1 ribbon closer to Bethlehem. This seems pretty straightforward, however, there will be surprises along the way.  Just as life is full of surprises We don’t know the future or the way.

Are you ready? Do you want to join us? How many of us will make it?

If you have any questions or would like to participate contact Maryann.

Electronics Recycling – Bring your small electronics for recycling – recycle items that fit into the blue box in the narthex.

Opportunities to serve: There are many volunteer opportunities in the ministry at Trinity. If you are able to offer the gift of time, please let us know. There are opportunities, to serve on committees, to help with one time special events, help serve at funeral lunches and fellowship coffee, to help with technology, read scripture, offer prayers, sing in the choir, to work at bombers games, help with Sunday School and Youth, etc. Please prayerfully consider these opportunities and be in touch with the office (204 269 1632) tuc@mymts.net.  We are grateful for every gift given and appreciate all you do for Trinity. SCRIPTURE TO PONDER

THE WEEK OF WORLD COMMUNION

Scriptures this week: Lamentations 1:1‒6; Lamentations 3:19‒26 or Habakkuk 1:1‒4; 2:1‒4; Psalm 137 or Psalm 37:1‒9; 2 Timothy 1:1‒14; Luke 17:5‒10

To Ponder – Lamentations 3:19–26 and Luke 17:5–10

A brief reflection

Friends, this coming Sunday is World Communion Sunday. Across time zones and languages, in cathedrals and chapels, in village roads and city streets, people gather at one Table. Bread is broken, the cup is lifted, and we remember: we belong to one body in Christ.

Yet we do not come to this Table unaware of the world around us. Wars devastate Ukraine, Gaza, Sudan. Families flee violence and famine. Climate change scorches the earth with wildfires, floods, and hurricanes. Closer to home, communities wrestle with division, racism, poverty, and loneliness.

It can feel like the cry of Lamentations: “wormwood and gall, bitterness and despair.”

But the prophet dares to speak hope:

“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases,

his mercies never come to an end;

they are new every morning;

great is your faithfulness.” — Lamentations 3:22–23

Hope rises in the rubble.

The Table is not a hiding place from suffering—it is where the brokenness of the world is named and held in Christ. Here we remember that we are part of a global family.

The bread we break connects us to wheat fields in Ukraine, to rice paddies in Asia, to maize fields in Africa, and to gardens in our own neighborhoods. The cup reminds us that creation itself participates in communion.

When we eat, we pledge not only to love one another but also to love God’s creation—because creation sustains the sacrament itself. Without soil, rain, and labor, there is no bread, no wine, no communion.

A Question to Ponder

Where is God calling me to plant a “mustard seed of faith” this week—an act of love, peace, or care for creation—that will help nurture hope in a world of crisis?

A Prayer

Gracious God,

as we gather at your Table this week, open our eyes to the pain of the world and open our hearts to the hope you offer. In broken bread and poured-out cup, remind us that we are one body in Christ—bound together across nations, languages, and cultures.

Strengthen our faith, even when it feels as small as a mustard seed. Teach us to serve humbly, to love deeply, and to live in harmony with one another and with your creation. Renew in us each morning the assurance of your steadfast love, and send us forth as people of hope, peace, and compassion.

In Christ’s name we pray. Amen.

Scripture to Ponder & Prayer

Fourth Week in September 2025

“A week when we remember those children who never returned home”

Scriptures for this week:

 Jeremiah 32:1–3, 6–15; Psalm 91:1–6, 14–16;

1 Timothy 6:6–19; Luke 16:19–31

 To Ponder:

 Jeremiah 32:1–3, 6–15; Luke 16:19–31

 A Brief Reflection

When Jeremiah was imprisoned for speaking God’s truth (Jeremiah 32:1–3), he was asked by God to do something surprising—buy a field, an act of hope in the midst of despair. The land transaction became a sign that God’s promise of restoration was greater than the destruction around them. Jeremiah’s obedience showed that even in the darkest times, God’s future is one of renewal and life.

In Luke 16:19–31, Jesus tells of a rich man who ignored Lazarus, a poor man at his gate. The parable is a stark reminder that ignoring the suffering of others has eternal consequences. It challenges us to see the dignity of those who are overlooked and to live lives of compassion and justice.

Phyllis Webstad’s story mirrors both the loss and the promise found in these scriptures. At six years old, her orange shirt—given with love by her grandmother—was taken away at residential school. That shirt became a symbol of her worth being denied, of her identity being stripped, and of the deep wounds inflicted upon Indigenous children, families, and communities.

Yet today, the orange shirt has become a sign of hope and truth-telling. Just as Jeremiah’s field purchase spoke of a future of restoration, the wearing of orange reminds us that “Every Child Matters.” It is a collective act of remembering, honoring, and committing ourselves to reconciliation.

As we mark Orange Shirt Day, may we see the face of Lazarus in Phyllis and in all survivors of residential schools. May we acknowledge the wounds of the past, and may our actions today sow seeds of justice, healing, and restored dignity.

A Question to Hold:

 ·         Where is God calling me to listen deeply, act compassionately, and invest in the hope of reconciliation, even when it feels costly or uncomfortable?

Let us pray …

God of truth and reconciliation,

we remember the children who never came home,

and we honor the survivors who still carry deep wounds.

Open our eyes to the cries we might ignore,

open our hearts to the healing work you call us to,

and open our hands to sow justice and hope.

May the seeds we plant today grow into a future

where every child matters, and every life is cherished. Amen.

 Come with an Orange Shirt this Sunday

We invite everyone to wear an orange shirt to remember and honour the children of Residential Schools and to affirm that every child matters. Orange Shirt Day began with the story of Phyllis Webstad, a Northern Secwpemc woman, who had her new orange shirt taken away on her first day at St. Joseph Mission Residential School. She, like many others, cried herself to sleep, far from home, with no one to listen or show compassion.
