We hold Ethel and their family in our prayers on the death of Paul Campbell on July 5th.

Shaheeda Koning, a long time member at Trinity passed away on June 27, 2023. Shaheeda had moved to Brandon in 2019 to be closer to family. We pray for her family and friends as they grieve this loss. She had many friends at Trinity and had been an active member of South side Community Fitness and Fellowship for many years before her move. Family is asking for privacy as they grieve. Cards and messages can be sent to the church. Suni Matthews, who was a close friend of Shaheeda will pass messages and cards on to the family.  Our prayers are with Suni and her family as they grieve.

The family of Norma Daly is celebrating her life on Saturday July 22nd at 1:30pm at Trinity. Everyone is invited to come and share memories and be with family and friends at this celebration.

Because of Elizabeth’s notice of retirement, Trinity will begin the process of searching for a new minister. The first step is to determine the ministry needs and position description and create profiles of our church, community and finances. We need 3-5 people who would be willing to serve as our Profile team. Here is a link to the handbook for this step in the process: Pastoral Relations: Guidelines for a Community of Faith Profile (united-church.ca) which will give good, comprehensive information for people interested in being a part of this step in the process. The board has asked that folks prayerfully discern if you would like to do this. Please be in touch with Barb Tallman (chair of the board) barbara1tallman@gmail.com and Karen Wall (secretary of the board) kwall@mymts.net  by July 10th if you feel called to participate. Training and assistance from the Region is provided for all steps in this process.

The board offers this financial update:

Jan to May     Income $84,754.03              Expenses: $102,608.89  =  deficit ($17,854.86)

The board offers a friendly reminder that although we may be on holidays, the church continues to pay its bills during the summer months. We hope that people remember to submit their givings in person, by mail, by dropping it off at the church in the mailbox, or by signing up with PAR to have your donations come directly from your bank account. Please be in touch with the office if you have any questions. Thank you for offering your gifts to the mission and ministry of Trinity United Church.

Bomber fund raiser: We still need volunteers for the upcoming games: July 20; August 3 and 24; September 9 and 29 and October 21. If you are able to help, it will be greatly appreciated. We provide all the training and assistance. Please contact Marilyn or Irma or sign up on the sign up sheets in the narthex.

With the community of Dauphin, we grieve the loss and trauma of the June 15 bus crash that took the lives of at least 16 people and left many injured, and so many grieving. Our hearts break, and God’s heart breaks. Please pray for the loved ones of the victims, survivors, first responders and medical staff, the communities of Dauphin and Carberry and area, and all affected by this horrible accident near Carberry. May God bless those whose lives have been lost, and may God’s love hold close all who are grieving. May we all be living expressions of God’s love in this time of grief.

We hold in prayer community members and families as we mourn Rebecca Contois, Morgan Harris, Marcedes Myran, and Mashkode Bizhiki’ikwe and all Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women

We hold in prayer Lorraine Antosh as she is in hospital.

We continue to hold the people of James Smith Cree Nation and the nearby village of Weldon, Saskatchewan in our prayers.

Upon hearing the preliminary research findings on deaths and unmarked graves at the Alberni residential institution, The United Church of Canada, both regionally and nationally, hears the Tseshaht First Nation’s specific Calls for Truth and Justice directed to us, and commits to continued conversation with them about specific actions in response. Every Child Matters.

A message from the Property Committee:

As you may be aware in the past year Trinity United Church staff, the Property Committee and others have been busy scoping out the concept and details for the washroom renovations. James Hutchings (retired Architect) prepared detailed design drawings, specifications and requirements necessary for Invitation to Bid by contractors. During the early months of 2023 we engaged and invited five construction companies to visit the washroom sites and in April we sent them Invitations to Bid firm prices on the project.
While this was going on applications for grant funds were submitted to five agencies with the hope that sufficient funds could be aggregated in time to renovate the lower hall and main floor washrooms this coming July and August. Decisions by the granting agencies have just been received by Trinity and unfortunately only one grant was received which is significantly short of doing just the lower hall washrooms.
Therefore Trinity has made the decision to delay the renovations until the summer of 2024.Feedback from the non-funding agencies encouraged Trinity to submit applications for their next round with decisions in the spring of 2024.
Importantly, during the visits by the construction companies we learned that the vinyl flooring in the  washrooms contains asbestos as verified by a test laboratory. Use of asbestos was banned in 1990 in Manitoba. When renovations do proceed the contractor will be required to contract a company that specializes in asbestos abatement and removal in accordance with Manitoba regulations before any renovations begin. As long as the flooring is not damaged or cut the asbestos is benign and harmless. The flooring is original from the time the church building was constructed, opening in 1979. For more information on the renovations project including asbestos removal the Property Committee personnel would be glad to provide more detailed information or discuss with you as needed.

A message from Elizabeth:

As you may know, I’ve been dealing with some health issues over the past number of months and I’m blessed to say that all is well with me. During this time, however, I have been praying, wondering and pondering as well as talking with and listening to my family and friends. I am so grateful for the support and care from many of you during this time. One of the things that has been “rumbling” through my mind, heart and spirit is retirement. This might be no surprise to you because of my gray hair and my many years of serving you! After much prayer, discernment and discussion, I’ve decided to retire with my last Sunday being December 31, 2023. I have been in touch with Prairie to Pine Region Pastoral Relations minister, Judy Hare; the Ministry and Personnel Committee here at Trinity through my liaison Harry Johnson; and the chair of the board, Barb Tallman (who is away in Germany) and deputy chair of the board, Susan Delaney. Be assured that all the people involved will be committed to helping us move through the process of finding a new minister and we’ve done this before! We’ll keep everyone informed and aware of the steps we’ll be taking. I feel confident in our abilities and ministry and after our experience of COVID, when we discovered the gifts and talents of so many, we are in a great position to move forward.

A message from the Ministry and Personnel Committee by Elizabeth’s liaison, Harry Johnson, is attached.

A message from Susan Delaney on behalf of the board:

On behalf of the Trinity United Church board, I reluctantly, and joyfully accept your resignation. You have done so many wonderful things for our church; having us think hard about what really matters, leading us through good and bad times (the bad time was when you became the Queen of Youtube, reassuring us that God, Jesus and that “amazing” spirit are always with us in whatever form we choose them to be. You are the kindest of people and you livingly accept everyone. We wish you health, happiness, and peace. I am only Irish by marriage, but the Irish blessing says it all: “May the road rise to meet you, may the wind be ever at your back, may the Lord always hold you in the hollow of his hand.”

We are grateful to Gerta de Jong, Marilyn Loat, and Karen Wall for cashiering this Sunday.

Scriptures for Sunday: Genesis 22:1-14; Psalm 13; Romans 6:12-23; Matthew 10:40-42

Prayer: Faithful God, may we grow in trust, quell our fears and build a courageous, welcoming community where all can feel at home.   Amen

Scripture to ponder: Psalm 13:5-6 I’ve thrown myself headlong into your arms—I’m celebrating your rescue. I’m singing at the top of my lungs, I’m so full of answered prayers.
