We are pleased to share that The Right Rev. Dr. Carmen Lansdowne, former Moderator of The United Church of Canada, has published her first book through Canadian Mennonite University. A public “Book Conversation” event will be held on Thursday, November 6 at 2:00 p.m. at The United Church in Meadowood. All are welcome to attend and engage in this meaningful conversation around faith, theology, reconciliation, and public ministry. See attached.

We continue to remember and all those who risk their safety in the pursuit of peace, justice, and compassion for those suffering in Gaza. 

As we continue to hold the people of Gaza and all who are affected by violence and injustice in our steadfast prayers.

Let us hold them all in the light of God’s peace.

We pray for those facing health challenges:

We pray for Victor Bryll who is in hospital dealing with health issues.

We pray for  Bernice Gregory who is dealing with health issues.

We pray for Connie Fillion who is recovering at home as she deals with health issues.
We continue to pray for  Damber’s family – Sumi as she continues her recovery following cancer treatment, for Sumi’s three nieces Ameera, Anupaa, and Anuka in the camp in Nepal and for Damber’s mother, Dhan Khadka as she faces health issues. Damber and Sumi are grateful for the prayers and support of the congregation.

Trinity provides Church Services at the St. Norbert Personal Care Home and the Waverley/Rosewood Retirement Community. We provide a half-hour service at St. Norbert on the first Thursday of every month at 10:30 am and at the Waverley/Rosewood on the second Wednesday of every month at 10 am. 🏈 Next Winnipeg Blue Bomber fundraiser game is The Grey Cup game 🏈

Sunday, November 16 the GREY CUP will be played Winnipeg. Game start time is 5:00 p.m. so our start time will likely be 3 to 4 hours before game start time. This will be a BIG ONE so mark it in your calendar if you are able to work. We have been asked to recruit as many volunteers as possible.

West Broadway Ministry is no longer providing meals to their guests.  They do provide a take and go bag lunch.  For that purpose, they only need sandwich fixings (canned meat, tuna, peanut butter, etc,) granola bars, and fruit cups. Please adjust your donations in the grocery cart accordingly.  Thank you!

Walk to Bethlehem 👟👢👞🥿 From Maryann:

Are you taking part in our Walk to Bethlehem? Let’s review what has happened since I invited you on our journey to Bethlehem and the start of Advent. 

The journey started September 19th when I reminded you that our ancestor Moses wondered for a long time to an unknown promised land. It wasn’t easy for Moses and the Israelites and it took a very long time. Now we are moving to a known place, Bethlehem for the start of Advent.  For every hour of movement each week we move one ribbon closer to Bethlehem as depicted on the clothesline on the sanctuary wall. Will you get to Bethlehem for the start of Advent?

Electronics Recycling – Bring your small electronics for recycling – recycle items that fit into the blue box in the narthex. 

Opportunities to serve: There are many volunteer opportunities in the ministry at Trinity. If you are able to offer the gift of time, please let us know. There are opportunities, to serve on committees, to help with one time special events, help serve at funeral lunches and fellowship coffee, to help with technology, read scripture, offer prayers, sing in the choir, to work at bombers games, help with Sunday School and Youth, etc. Please prayerfully consider these opportunities and be in touch with the office (204 269 1632) tuc@mymts.net.  We are grateful for every gift given and appreciate all you do for Trinity. SCRIPTURE TO PONDER 

Week of October 27, 2025

Scriptures this week:

Habakkuk 1:1‒4; 2:1‒4 or Isaiah 1:10‒18. Psalm 119:137‒144 or Psalm 32:1‒7; 2 Thessalonians 1:1‒4, 11‒12; and Luke 19:1‒10

 Scripture to Ponder: Isaiah 1:16–18 & Luke 19:1–10

“Stop doing wrong, learn to do right; seek justice, defend the oppressed.” – Isaiah

“For the Son of Man came to seek out and to save the lost.” – LukeThe prophet Isaiah speaks a hard but necessary truth from God: faith without justice is empty. God rejects hollow worship, religious pretenses, and rituals done without righteousness. The call is unmistakable, stop doing wrong and learn to do right. True worship is demonstrated in seeking justice, defending the oppressed, advocating for the vulnerable, and standing with the widowed and orphaned. God does not desire offerings without obedience, prayers without repentance, or praise without transformation.

Luke’s Gospel gives us a living example of this transformation in the story of Zacchaeus. He was wealthy, powerful, and deeply compromised—yet when he encountered Jesus, his heart changed. He didn’t just feel guilty—he acted. Zacchaeus restored what he had broken, repaired what he had stolen, and turned his life toward justice and generosity. Jesus did not praise him for words alone but for a faith that led to restitution and renewal.

Together, these scriptures remind the Church—our church—of our sacred calling. Faith must move beyond our sanctuaries and into the streets. Our prayers must become action. Our love for God must bear fruit in compassion, advocacy, and justice. God still says to us today: “Come now, let us reason together” (Isaiah 1:18)—a divine invitation not to shame, but to transformation.

 Reflection Question

 Where is God calling us—not just to believe—but to act for justice, mercy, and reconciliation in our community today?

 A Prayer

God of justice and mercy,
Cleanse our hearts from empty religion and awaken us to courageous faith.
Teach us to do right, to seek justice, and to lift up the oppressed.
May our worship be made true in our living,
and may salvation be seen among us,
as lives are restored and hope is renewed.
Amen.

SCRIPTURE TO PONDER 

Week of Reformation Sunday / All Saints Day

2 Timothy 4:6‒8, 16‒18; Luke 18:9‒14

To ponder: Psalm 84:1-7 & Luke 18:9-14

A Brief Reflection:

Reformation is not a single event in history — it is a continual call to renewal.
The 16th-century reformers — Luther, Calvin, Knox, and others — sought to rediscover the heart of the Gospel: that God’s grace is free, and that the Church must be reformed and always reforming. 

In the United Church of Canada, born in 1925 through the union of Methodist, Congregationalist, and Presbyterian traditions, that same reforming spirit lives on — a spirit that values faith expressed through justice, compassion, and unity in diversity. Each generation is called to discern afresh how the Gospel speaks in its time and place.

Psalm 84 speaks of those whose hearts are set on pilgrimage — who, even in dry valleys, make them places of springs. This is the journey of the Church: walking through seasons of doubt and renewal, carrying both memory and hope.
At Trinity United, we too walk this pilgrim path — honoring the saints who built the foundation before us, the reformers who dared to imagine a wider grace, and the Spirit who still calls us to become a more inclusive, just, and humble Church.

And in Luke 18, Jesus contrasts the proud Pharisee with the humble tax collector. True reformation begins not in power or perfection but in repentance and humility — when hearts are open to God’s mercy. The tax collector’s prayer becomes the heartbeat of all reforming faith: “God, be merciful to me.”

We reform because we are still learning to love as Christ loved.
We reform because the Spirit still moves, still surprises, still reforms us into grace.

Let us pray…
God of Reforming Grace,
you have led your Church through ages of faith and struggle,
calling us to live not by habit, but by hope.
Through prophets and reformers, you have reminded us
that faith is a journey and your mercy our home.
Renew in us the humility of the tax collector
and the courage of the saints who walked before us.
When we grow comfortable, stir our hearts again.
When the path feels dry, make it a place of springs.
At Trinity and beyond, reform us once more—
to be a people of compassion, justice, and grace,
alive in your Spirit,
and grounded always in the love of Christ. Amen.
