This Sunday, December 17th, we mark the third Sunday of Advent with Tierney, Hector and the choir leading the service. Here is the link for the recorded online worship: https://youtu.be/0GGEq2_TJVQ.

Sermon by phone: 204 410 1384

Upcoming services for Advent and Christmas: all services are in person and recorded and posted in our usual way

Thursday December 21st – 7pm – Longest Night of the Year service – for all those who want a moment of peace, a time to discover the holy and sacred of the season, joint service with Good Shepherd. In person and recorded and posted that evening.

Sunday December 24 – 10:45am and 7pm – Advent 4 and Christmas Eve for the whole family! We are offering the same service for both the morning and evening to allow all of us to experience the wonder, awe and joy of this holy moment.

The Property Committee is pleased to announce that this week Trinity United received a grant of $45,000 from the Sir Thomas Cropo Foundation Inc to help with the washroom renovation project! This adds to the $60,000 from Winnipeg Foundation received earlier this year and the $50,000 received from the City of Winnipeg by RKNS means we are well on our way to securing funding for this important renovation. If you’d like to know more about Tom Cropo’s legacy of support to the community, please visit their website: https://www.cropofoundation.org/

A message from the Board

As we look to the end of the year, we are aware we will likely have a deficit which was predicted by the deficit budget passed at the Annual meeting. To help us reduce the deficit, we ask people to prayerfully consider a “Christmas gift” to Trinity. Today is a good moment to consider supporting an organization that reflects your values and way of life. To keep you informed, these are most recent financials:

Sept                income $18,994.05              expenses $ 22,104.55         = ($3,110.50)

Oct                  income $21,541.41              expenses $21,061.31          = $480.10

Jan to Oct      income $179,416.13            expenses $209,127.51        = ($29,711.38)

Last Sunday for the Outreach projects for Christmas: Boxes will be in the narthex area, clearly marked for the organization. Please do NOT wrap your items.

The Mitten Tree – Trinity’s tradition for many, many years.  Mittens and hats will be distributed to local schools.

Christmas hampers for local schools – Many of the families receive hampers from their school. We will collect non-perishable food items to be distributed to the schools. Suggestions are lentils, rice, canned meats, pasta and sauces, beans, etc.

Gifts With Vision – The United Church catalogue is available online at  https://giftswithvision.ca/   for those wishing to make a contribution to church projects, both in Canada and abroad.

Velma’s House – New this year!  This is a resource under the parent organization Ka Ni Kanichihk for women fleeing violence on Winnipeg streets and requiring a temporary refuge. Most women receiving assistance are in their 20’s. There is a need for new warm socks and underwear for this organization.

We pray in joy for Frederick Otto, who was born last week; grandchild of Ross and Barb Tallman and child of Alyson and Riley

We hold in healing prayer Carol Potter.

We hold in prayer David, Marilyn, Colin, and Marg Loat on the death of their son, brother and husband Jim Loat

Moment for December 5, 2023

Thank you to everyone from Trinity United and Good Shepherd Anglican who helped make “Destination Bethlehem” a great day! To those who came early to set up, who brought food, who made coffee and tea, who found music of the season, who welcomed folks, who played a part in the worship service, who sang for the “commercial breaks”, who prayed, who laughed and entered the story which called us home, and who stayed later and help clean up, put away and made sure the church was ready for a new week.

We so appreciate the gifts you gave to this first Sunday of Advent to prepare us for the season!

(if you missed the service, here’s the link: https://youtu.be/vkRzjUEazjw   )

Scriptures for this week: Isaiah 40:1-11; Psalm 85:1-2,8-13; 2 Peter 3:8-15a; Luke 1:47-55

Scripture to ponder: Psalm 80:19 Restore us, O Lord God of hosts; let your face shine, that we may be saved.

Prayer: Holy God, the season writes itself, they say. Hope, Peace, Joy, Love. Hope though? Really? Hope requires a hardhat. I go into the caves of a person’s sorrow, the mines of grief, the construction of a life. That is where Hope is called. That is where I go. May there be an Advent hymn to sustain me.
