The Worship Committee is again offering “Star Words” throughout Epiphany.  We invite you to pick up a word – take it home with you – think about your word, pray about it, hold it close to your heart.  Does your word make you think of something in a new way?  If you are unable to attend worship service and wish to have your own star word, call Kathy in the church office (204 269-1632) and she will pick one for you. 

At the congregational meeting on January 17, 2024, the Profile report was accepted, the Profile Team was disbanded, and the Search Team (for the new minister) was appointed as follows: Kyle Chorney, Leslie Kirby, Gerta de Jong (liaison with Prairie to Pine region), Ken Johnson, Angela Rosales, Debbie Spindler, Barbara Tallman. A big thank you to all who were part of the Profile Team and another big thank you for all those who have agreed to serve on the Search Team. If you would like more information, please do not hesitate to be in touch with members of the Search Team.  

Terry DeLong, Chair of the Nominating Committee, and Committee Members, Meryle Berg, Debbie Spindler, Ross Tallman, and Wynn Ferguson are looking for Members of the Congregation, who aren’t currently on the Board or Committees, to become more active in the life of your Church. There are several positions on various Committees that will need to be filled by the Annual Meeting in March. The most important vacancy that has to be filled is for the position of Chair Elect (Deputy Chair) of the Board as this is a 4-year commitment. For more information and if you are interested in helping your Church, by donating some of your time and talent, please contact one of our Nominating Committee Members soon. We want to hear from you!! By stepping forward now, you will save the Nominating Committee from making unnecessary phone calls in the near future.

Needs at Trinity: With Elizabeth’s retirement, we are looking for volunteers to help us out with the ministry of Trinity. Please prayerfully consider these opportunities and be in touch with the person listed or the office (204 269 1632 tuc@mymts.net) We are grateful for every gift given and appreciate all you do for Trinity. Thank you for those of you who have already assumed some these responsibilities. 

New: We need someone to help us navigate hybrid meetings using Zoom and in person attendance. We often have to use “polls” to vote. There is a laptop computer and blue tooth microphone at the church to use and we can provide training. If you use Zoom at home or work, and would like to share your skills with Trinity, please be in touch with the office.

New: We need someone or two people (depending if you want to split the task) to take on the task of collecting and returning the electronic recycling for Trinity. Usually this means regularly picking up items in the blue electronic recycle box by the front sanctuary door, dropping off items at either Brady Landfill 4R recycle spot or Urban Mines or IKEA (for batteries and all light bulbs). Occasionally, items need to be picked up at people’s homes. Please contact the office if you’d like to do this.

We need someone to record services on a Sunday morning. We have the camera and will provide good training. If you like taking videos of your family and friends, and would be willing to expand that knowledge to recording Sunday morning services, please contact the office. 

Related to the last request, we need someone to edit the videos once they have been recorded. You can use the program on your home computer or on the computer in the sanctuary and training and tutorials will be provided. Most videos require just a bit of editing … there is the odd one, however that might require more and that’s where our expert will help you out! Please contact the office.

We continue to need people to read scripture and pray for Sunday services. We will record these so that if you’re unable to be in worship, your recording will be there. please contact the office.

And if you’d like to lead a service and/or deliver a message, please be in touch with the worship committee.

Trinity Services at Personal Care Homes:  Our small group of Trinity volunteers that puts on a half hour Service at 2 Personal Care Homes in Winnipeg, became smaller when Elizabeth (and Tom) retired.  We would welcome anyone who would like to join us, even if it is only once in a while. Our team consists of Debbie Spindler, Maryann Koop, Barbara Tallman, Val McKay, Joann Sauve, Terry DeLong, and our pianist Nancy DeLong.  (not everyone is available every month).  Our services include hymn singing, scripture readings, short poems/readings, prayers, a message, and end with a blessing.  The first Wednesday of the month is our service at St. Norbert Personal Care Home where Val’s mom resides, and the second Wednesday of the month we are at the Waverley/Rosewood where Bernice Gregory lives. Services are 10:30-11:00 am and run from Sept.- May. Car-pooling can be arranged. We usually have about 20 St. Norbert residents attend and about 30 at Waverley/Rosewood. We always get far more out of doing this than what we put into it. Our next services will be February 7 & 14, 2024. Upon hearing the preliminary research findings on deaths and unmarked graves at the Alberni residential institution, The United Church of Canada, both regionally and nationally, hears the Tseshaht First Nation’s specific Calls for Truth and Justice directed to us, and commits to continued conversation with them about specific actions in response. Every Child Matters.

A message from the Faith Profile Team:

A Trinity United Church community of faith (congregational) meeting has been called for Wednesday January 17, 2024 at 7:00 pm.  It will be a hybrid meeting both via Zoom and in person at the church.  A representative from the Prairie to Pine Pastoral Relations Commission will be present.

The purpose of this meeting is two-fold:

To approve the Faith Profile report including its attached financial viability statement, position description, and other information.  This report has been approved by the Trinity Board, and the board recommends approval by the community of faith.

To elect/approve the members of the Search team.

The Zoom link and information will be emailed out again tomorrow.

Here are the dates and leaders for the next 4 months of Sunday School Sundays. I encourage you to mark these dates on your calendar and plan on being there! On these dates, we invite you to bring the kids downstairs when you arrive, stay if you like or attend church, and the leader will teach the lesson. Once church is over, you can come back downstairs to pick up your kids. 

January 14th – Alicia will lead the kids in a lesson about Jesus being baptized

February 11th – Carley will lead the kids in a lesson about being transformed by God’s love

March 10th – Cynthia will lead the kids in a lesson about Nicodemus and his visit with Jesus

April 14th – Terry will lead the kids in a lesson about valuing all our gifts

May 12th – ?? we are still looking for a leader for this Sunday, Christian Family Sunday

Our remaining team consists of our pianist Nancy DeLong, Debbie Spindler, Maryann Koop, Barbara Tallman, Val McKay, Joann Sauve, and myself, Terry DeLong. Nancy picks out the well-known hymns that we sing and I lead the order of Service, but I am happy to share my duties with anyone else that would like to do this. We “perform” the first Wednesday of the month at St. Norbert Personal Care Home where Val’s mom resides and the second Wednesday of the month at Waverley/Rosewood where Bernice Gregory lives. This is 10:30-11am and runs from Sept.- May. Car-pooling can be arranged. We usually have about 20 St. Norbert residents attend and 30 at Waverley/Rosewood. A huge and most appreciative THANK YOU to all those who helped with the organization, presentations,  set-up, food donations, serving, and clean-up for Elizabeth’s retirement luncheon.  Your generosity and involvement are testament to the love, caring, and fellowship that Trinity provides and made the luncheon the success that it was.  

As we move into the new year, it’s time to take down the Advent/Christmas decorations in the church. If you have a few minutes after church on January 7th, we’ll pack things away for another year. Many hands mean they be down and packed away in a much shorter time! Thanks for your help.

A message from the Profile Team:

We are asking members of the Trinity United Church to consider the opportunity to be on the Search team. The Search Team will be responsible for reviewing applicants and interviewing for the position of Minister. The Board asks you to think about this over the advent season. If you have questions as you ponder this, do not hesitate to reach out and ask questions to Barbara Tallman or Terry DeLong (contacts below). A deadline of January 8th has been set to receive the names of those interested in being on the Search Team. Search Team members are required to attend a mandatory education session via Zoom on January 13, 2024, from 830 am to 1230 pm.  Search Team members are approved at a congregational meeting.  The expected date of this congregational meeting is January 17, 2024.  More information on the congregational meeting is forthcoming.

With Elizabeth’s retirement, we are looking for volunteers to help us out with the ministry of Trinity. Please prayerfully consider these opportunities and be in touch with the person listed or the office (204 269 1632 tuc@mymts.net) We are grateful for every gift given and appreciate all you do for Trinity. Thank you for those of you who have already assumed some these responsibilities. 

We need someone to be responsible to close and lock the church after worship on an occasional basis. There is a check list and video to show you what needs to be done. Most Sundays we have someone in place but there is the occasional Sunday when we need someone to turn off the lights, shut off the monitor, projectors and screens, lock the sanctuary, etc. Contact the office if you’d like to help on a Sunday morning.

We need someone to record services on a Sunday morning. We have the camera and will provide good training. If you like taking videos of your family and friends, and would be willing to expand that knowledge to recording Sunday morning services, please contact the office

Related to the last request, we need someone to edit the videos once they have been recorded. You can use the program on your home computer or on the computer in the sanctuary and training and tutorials will be provided. Most videos require just a bit of editing … there is the odd one, however that might require more and that’s where our expert will help you out! Please contact the office.

We continue to need people to read scripture and pray for Sunday services. We will record these so that if you’re unable to be in worship, your recording will be there. please contact the office

From Terry DeLong: Our small group of Trinity volunteers that puts on a half hour Service at 2 Personal Care Homes in Winnipeg, will be losing 2 valued members (Elizabeth and Tom). And so, we would welcome anyone who would like to join us, even it is only once in a while. Our remaining team consists of our pianist Nancy DeLong, Debbie Spindler, Maryann Koop, Barbara Tallman, Val McKay, Joann Sauve, and myself, Terry DeLong. Nancy picks out the well-known hymns that we sing and I lead the order of Service, but am happy to relinquish my duties to anyone else that would like to do this. We “perform” the first Wednesday of the month at St. Norbert Personal Care Home where Val’s mom resides and the second Wednesday of the month at Waverley/Rosewood where Bernice Gregory lives. This is 10:30am- 11am and runs from Sept.- May. Car-pooling can be arranged. We usually have about 20 St. Norbert residents attend and 30 at Waverley/Rosewood although we actually had 50 there at our Advent/ Christmas Service earlier this month!! We always get far more out of doing this than what we put into it, especially since we don’t have any rehearsals. We just wing it!! Our next “performance” will be Jan. 3, 2024. We hold in prayer Vic and Marlene Bryll and their son Thomas and daughter-in-law Dana as she awaits surgery for cancer.

We continue to hold the people of James Smith Cree Nation and the nearby village of Weldon, Saskatchewan in our prayers.

Upon hearing the preliminary research findings on deaths and unmarked graves at the Alberni residential institution, The United Church of Canada, both regionally and nationally, hears the Tseshaht First Nation’s specific Calls for Truth and Justice directed to us, and commits to continued conversation with them about specific actions in response. Every Child Matters.

Trinity Walkers:  Please phone me and let’s arrange a time and place. If you are hesitant about walking outdoors then how about walking a loop in Ikea and then stopping for a coffee.  If Tuesdays don’t work let’s try another day.

Trinity Yoga: Saturdays at 10-11am Yoga; 11-noon coffee and fellowship; online by zoom – resumes on January 6, 2024 – new link will be sent out. 

Bible Study: Mondays at 1:30pm – resumes in January 2024 – in person and on zoom 

South Side Community Fitness and Fellowship: Wednesday at 10:30am Yoga; both online by zoom and in person – resumes January 10, 2024
