Scripture to ponder: Hebrews 10:11-25

The writer of this passage is speaking to believers, impressing on them the importance of being in communion with each other as they share and express their common faith. We are sanctified by the ultimate sacrifice of God’s son Jesus – made holy.  As we live into the new covenant, we are called to “provoke one another unto love and to good works”. 

Prayer:  Loving God, we come with gratitude for our community of faith. Bless us together as we seek to live out our faith in community with one another. May your peace and grace be with us today and always. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

There is no set payment amount for a Christmas Star, give what you wish…    

*NEW: AED training: Recently, a Heart Specialist was interviewed on the Radio. He said that “ANYONE, OF ANY AGE, AT ANYTIME AND ANYWHERE, CAN HAVE A HEART ATTACK!!” If a loved one or anyone at our Church was having a heart attack, would you know what to do to save them? Do you know where the AED, that GSA graciously gifted us 10 years ago, is and do you know how to use it in conjunction with CPR? If not, the Board has approved 2 one-hour Training Sessions, for you, one on Monday, Nov. 25 at 7pm and the other on Sunday, Dec. 1, shortly after our regular Service ends. Those, who are in the Church the most, have already been invited to attend. As of this morning there are 6 spots available for the Monday Session and 4 seats left for the Sunday Training. We are still waiting to hear if any regular PAL volunteers want to attend, and if any additional GSA Congregants wish to join us. Therefore, it will have to be on a first-sign-up, first-accepted basis so don’t delay if you are interested, and call Terry DeLong at 204-254-3450 or e-mail him at terry_delong@hotmail.com. If any seats are still available on this Sunday Morning, then a sign-up sheet will be in the Narthex, but don’t count on it. Thank you.

And by the way, also included in our AED Cabinet, is a brand new Naloxone Kit, which is used to rapidly reverse an Opioid overdose, if, God forbid, we ever need it. It sells for over $200, but we got it for free from Access Fort Garry!!

Electronics Recycling – The electronics recycling is continuing, thanks to the kind volunteer time of Carl and Margaret Shaykewich. Please only put recycle items that fit into the blue recycling box. NO large items, such as appliances or tv’s. It is also helpful if you package batteries in a plastic baggie. Thank you.

Personal Care Home Services

We are pleased that Personal Care Home Services have resumed at the Waverley/Rosewood location and at St. Norbert Personal Care Home. The St. Norbert service is at 10:30 the first Wednesday of the month and the service at The Waverley/Rosewood is the second Wednesday of the month at 10:30 a.m. We warmly invite our members to join us and contribute to the worship service. Your participation and support are greatly appreciated. We look forward to seeing you there! Services resumed October 2. If you would like more information about this opportunity, please talk to Damber or to Terry DeLong.

WORSHIP commemorating Remembrance Day and Communion: Sunday, November 10, 2024 at Trinity 10:45 a.m.

Scripture to Ponder: Ruth 3:1–5; 4:13–17

SUMMARY

Ruth 3:1–5

Naomi, Ruth’s mother-in-law, sees Ruth’s need for security and plans for her future. She advises Ruth to prepare herself and approach Boaz, a relative who will be at the threshing floor that night. Naomi instructs Ruth to wait until he has finished eating and drinking, then to uncover his feet and lie down, assuring her that he will guide her from there. Ruth agrees, demonstrating her trust in Naomi’s wisdom.

Ruth 4:13–17

Boaz marries Ruth, and God blesses them with a son named Obed. The women of the community celebrate Naomi, praising God for providing a redeemer. They recognize Obed as a blessing, noting that he will renew Naomi’s life and support her in her old age. Obed becomes significant as the grandfather of Jesse, the father of David, highlighting the importance of their lineage.

COMMENTARY IN BRIEF

The story of Ruth showcases themes of loyalty, redemption, and divine providence. Ruth’s commitment to Naomi and her bold actions at the threshing floor reflect profound faith and courage. Naomi, with her wisdom, guides Ruth toward a hopeful future. Boaz, as the kinsman-redeemer, symbolizes God’s grace and the restoration that comes through love and obedience. The birth of Obed connects their story to a greater narrative, leading to King David and illustrating how our lives intertwine in meaningful ways.

REFLECTION QUESTIONS

• Have you ever made a significant sacrifice for someone you love? How did that experience deepen your relationship or understanding of love?
• Think about a moment when you felt hopeless. How did faith, community, or family help you find your way back to hope?
• As we prepare for Remembrance Day, who comes to mind when you reflect on those who have impacted your life? What lessons or memories do you cherish about them, and how have they shaped your journey?

As we honor Remembrance Day, let’s reflect on the lives of those whose stories intertwine with ours—family, friends, and mentors. Their legacies of love and sacrifice guide us on our journey of faith and community. How can we live lives of purpose and service? It’s often the small acts of kindness—offering a helping hand, listening to a friend, or expressing gratitude to those who have served—that can make a big difference. Each of these actions honors their memory and ensures their sacrifices are never forgotten.

LET’S PRAY

Loving God, we come before You with grateful hearts, remembering those whose lives have touched ours—their love, wisdom, and sacrifices. As we reflect on the story of Ruth and Naomi, may we be inspired by their faithfulness and courage. Help us honor the memories of those who have gone before us, carrying their legacy of love and hope into our lives.

Grant us the strength to embrace the call to love and serve others, just as Ruth did. May we always be aware of Your guiding hand in our journeys and trust in Your divine providence. As we remember those we’ve lost, may we find comfort in the promise of redemption and renewal.

Bless each one of us as we seek to live out our faith, remembering that we are woven into a beautiful tapestry of stories and lives. May Your peace and grace be with us today and always.

Painting Event Saturday, November 16 – this Good Shepherd fundraiser ($25 to Di and Garth’s business with $50 donated to Good Shepherd) will be a morning workshop starting at 9 am with painting till about noon, followed by a soup lunch (provided) and then the opportunity for participants to present their paintings to the group. You will have the opportunity to create your own painting that reflects an encouraging image which incites hope or joy or faith or peace in your heart. No one paints the same thing; you choose what you paint. We encourage you to bring photos, sketches, magazine pictures or inspirational images on your phone as a reference for you. The only caveat is that your painting be respectful. At the end of the event you’ll be able to take home your picture and hang it on the wall! A poster with general details is attached so folks can get an idea of the make-up of the event. This event is for fun, encouraging each other and gathering together. Maximum participants is 25; cost is $75/person; registration is still open; there are a few spaces left. Payment by cheque should be directed to Church of the Good Shepherd and left in the wardens’ mail slot in the church (located on the shelf above the coat rack outside the GS office). Thanks! Sandi
