TUC Announcements January 9, 2025

“Beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity.” Colossians 3:14 (NRSV)

Worship service (with communion): January 12, 2025 at 10:45 a.m.

Big Question: Sunday January 12 – 9:15 to 10:00 a.m. (in person and on Zoom)

Sunday School will start in February.

Scripture to ponder and prayer:

Scriptures for this week

            Isaiah 43:1–7; Psalm 29; Acts 8:14–17; Luke 3:15–17, 21–22

Scriptures to Ponder

In Isaiah 43:1–7, God calls all people, regardless of their struggles or backgrounds, to be His sons and daughters. How can baptism serve as a reminder that God’s love transcends all boundaries?

Baptism is both a divine act of love and a human response to God’s calling. How do your actions in relation to others reflect God’s love and acceptance, especially when it comes to interacting with people whose identities or experiences may differ from your own?

The church is called to be a reflection of God’s inclusive love. How can your faith community more faithfully represent God’s welcoming embrace of all people, especially those marginalized for their gender or sexual identity? How can baptism be a symbol of this larger mission of inclusivity and love?

Baptism symbolizes the transformation of our hearts and lives. How does your baptism call you to live differently in a community that includes all people—no matter their background or identity? How can you help create a welcoming space in your church or community?

The Bible calls all people to be part of God’s family. In light of this, how can the church better recognize and celebrate the diverse forms of human identity, including those with different sexual identities? How does your understanding of baptism shape your response to those who feel excluded?

Let us pray

God of Love,

Thank You for the gift of baptism, a sign of Your inclusive love. Help us to live as one family, embracing all people, regardless of their differences. May our actions reflect Your grace and acceptance, and may we honor the diversity of Your creation. Guide us to be a welcoming community, united in Christ’s love. Amen.

We are grateful to Joann Sauve and Maryann Koop for cashiering this Sunday.

In our Prayers:

We pray for Connie Fillion’s sister-in-law Betty Fillion as she is in hospital Palliative Care.

We pray for Priest Jennifer Sisson, Good Shepherd Anglican (GSA) and her family as her husband Bishop Geoff Woodcroft faces health issues.

We pray for restored health for Sumi as she has finishes radiation treatment.  Damber and Sumi are grateful for the prayers and support of the congregation.

We pray for Bill Monro who is dealing with health issues.

From the Outreach Committee:
A big thank you from the Outreach committee to everyone for your outstanding support of our Christmas

projects. Your generosity is felt by so many in this new year. Dalhousie school staff were thrilled with the abundance of non-perishable food items that enabled them to make up 15 hampers for local families. Velma’s House was the recipient of a huge box of clothing and toiletries (84 items in total). From the Mitten tree, we collected 158 hats and 50 pairs of mittens These were sorted and will be distributed to several schools in South Winnipeg for children in need of warm items at recess! Thank you!!

*Coming on January 26 after church service: Committee/Team Education Fair

While a light lunch is available people can attain information on the various activities that manage the church business and keep the church connected to the larger committee. People from the various committees will be present to describe their activities.

Other opportunities: Once a month meetings and other activities associated with being on a committee does not suit some people.  If you have free time over the year there are many activities that you can help with.  Your presence and support for the committee work and the activities of the church is always welcome.

Thank you,

Nomination Committee: Barbara Tallman, Nancy Delong, Wynn Ferguson

*Mark your calendar for Trivia Night on Saturday, February 15, 2025. Details forthcoming from the Fundraising Committee.

*Good Shepherd Painting Event Rescheduled – for February 22 in the Lower hall from 9:00 a.m. until about noon. Now that the busy holiday season has left us looking for something else to do, why not try your hand at painting? If you think you have no artistic talent this event could prove you wrong! With the able tutelage from Garth (well-known Prairie artist) and Di (the Encourager) you will create something worthy of hanging in your home … really. What to paint is entirely up to you … it’s not one of those ‘everybody paints the same thing’ kind of workshops. Start time is 9 am in the Lower Hall and we’ll paint till around noon. Then we’ll have a soup lunch (3 varieties) with bread/buns and dessert – all provided. The cost is $75/person ($25 will go to Di and Garth for supply costs and $50 to Good Shepherd). Just because it’s a fundraiser for Good Shepherd does by no means mean that no one else can join. We’d love to have some Trinity folks come and enjoy in the comradery and food but most of all in the fun and encouragement of each other! Cheques should be made out to Church of the Good Shepherd and put in our Wardens’ mailbox (above the coat rack, close to the GS office). There are a few spots still open … you’d be most welcome!

Scripture to Ponder & Prayer

Dec 30, 2024

Welcome to the New Year 2025!

As we step into this new year, may we embrace the light of Christ and carry it with us through every day. The beginning of a new year is a time for reflection, renewal, and anticipation of the ways in which God will continue to work in our lives. Let’s begin this journey with hearts open to Divine guidance and light of Christ.

Scriptures for the Week: Jeremiah 31:7–14; Psalm 147:12–20; Ephesians 1:3–14; John 1:(1–9), 10–18

In this first week of the new year, the scriptures invite us to hold on to the light of Christ, no matter what lies ahead. Each passage offers hope and assurance, reminding us that God’s light will guide and sustain us through every season.

John 1:10–18 tells us that Christ is the true Light, the one who gives life to all people. Though the world may try to push aside this light, it cannot be overcome. In Christ, we find grace, truth, and the fullness of God’s love.

Additionally, John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist movement, was known for his commitment to bringing light into the world through action. He said, “Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.” Wesley’s words remind us that our role as bearers of light is practical and lived out in the small, everyday choices we make.

As we begin this new year, we are reminded that the light of Christ is always with us. It is a light that we can hold on to, no matter the circumstances. It is a light that shines in us and through us, bringing hope to a dark world.

Let us pray

Loving God, as we begin 2025, we thank You for the gift of Your light, which guides us through every season of life. Help us to hold on to Your light this year, trusting that You will lead us, heal us, and sustain us in all that we face.

May Your light shine brightly in us, filling us with peace, joy, and courage. As we walk through this year, help us to reflect Your love to everyone we meet, sharing Your grace and truth wherever we go.

Thank You for the blessings of the past year and for the hope You give for the year ahead. We trust in Your unfailing love and the power of Your light to guide us each day.

In Your holy name, Amen.

“Happy New Year”
