A note from ShaheedaMy sincere condolences to the Trinity family on the passing of our family members at Trinity. My thoughts and prayers are with you all always as I consider you my first family in Christ since moving to Winnipeg. May God continue to bless you all and give you strength. I really miss you all.

On Monday, February 6, a massive magnitude 7.8 earthquake hit southern Turkey and neighbouring Syria. The United Church of Canada is deeply concerned for all those affected, particularly the thousands who have lost their homes and their lives. The United Church is in contact with partners in the region to learn more about the impact and understand how best to offer our support. Please include the people of Turkey, Syria, and other countries affected in your prayers, and consider making a donation to the emergency relief fund.
God, In the face of destruction that tears down homes and threatens life, we pray that your deep abiding love be felt by: those who are grieving, those who fear for themselves and their communities, those who are struggling; and, those wo are offering aid. May they continue to be strengthened by your Spirit. May we extend our hearts in prayer. Amen

We hold in prayer Ruth and Arnold Graham and their family as they walk with Ruth’s mom in the hospital on her journey to be with God.

We hold in prayer community members and families as we mourn Rebecca Contois, Morgan Harris, Marcedes Myran, and Mashkode Bizhiki’ikwe and all Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women

We hold in prayer those who have been devastated by Hurricane Fiona, including the people in the Maritimes.

We hold in prayer Lorraine Antosh as she is in hospital.

We continue to hold the people of James Smith Cree Nation and the nearby village of Weldon, Saskatchewan in our prayers.

Scripture to ponder: Isaiah 40:29-31: He strengthens those who are weak and tired. Even those who are young grow weak; young people can fall exhausted. But those who trust in God for help will find their strength renewed. They will rise on wings like eagles; they will run and not get weary; they will run and not grow weak.

Prayer: God of light and story, be with us as we wander these days and nights of the Epiphany season. May your voice speak to us through our “star words”. Amen

Local family in crisis…The Outreach committee is bringing a sad and challenging situation to  your attention. Because of our friendships with Syrian gardeners, we are aware of things that affect their community. On January 2 a local Syrian woman, Hanna, aged 35, passed away suddenly from a heart condition. She leaves behind her husband Ala, and five children, Muhammad age 17, Aya 16, Maryam 14, Ahmed 3 and her newborn son, Adam, born December 2. Hanna’s husband Ala has stopped his studies to stay home and care for his son. The local Syrian community is offering support as they are able. Because their culture determines that other women cannot visit alone in a home where there is only a man present, their help is somewhat limited. The family is in the process of trying to bring a sister, a widow without children, from Turkey, to help. As we know, this may take some time but it is an excellent plan.
How can we help?  Trinity is seen in the community as being supportive and caring to all. We are asking for your support for this family through monetary donations that will be used to purchase diapers and formula for the baby. We will accept any donations for the family for the next two Sundays, ending on February 5.  Donations will be independent of your regular church giving.  On behalf of Hanna’s family, we say thank you for caring.
