From GSA about plans going forward following Rev. Jennifer Sisson’s retirement: Rev. Di Panting has been appointed as “Priest-in-charge” as the parish undertakes the work to discuss and define the future. Many of you already know Rev. Panting.  Supporting Our Children and Youth Ministry 

• Did you know that a group of Indigenous and Racialized youth is planning the third Sharing Across Cultures event for BIPOC youth on Saturday, September 6September 6September 6, 11 am to 7 pm at Broadway Disciples United Church in Winnipeg? This exciting day will feature culturally relevant cooking and activity workshops along with guided discussions that celebrate food, fun, and faith. In Celebration of a Special Birthday: Denyse Whalley will be celebrating her 90th birthday on August 31! We give thanks for her and the blessing she has been to our church community. Please join us in lifting up prayers of joy, gratitude, and love in honour of this wonderful milestone.

We pray for Ethel Campbell as she recovers at home following hip surgery. 

We pray for Connie Fillion who is now recovering at home as she deals with health issues. She appreciates our prayers and expresses thanks for the cards, calls and visits during her hospital stay.

We pray for Sumi as she continues her recovery following cancer treatment. We pray for Sumi's three nieces Ameera, Anupaa, and Anuka in the camp in Nepal as they need support for their security and protection.  We pray too for Damber's mother, Dhan Khadka as she faces serious health issues. Damber and Sumi are grateful for the prayers and support of the congregation.

Please have a look at the dates and times that you would be available. The sign up sheets are on the bulletin board in the narthex right beside the door leading into the sanctuary near the church entrance. If you have questions, talk to Marilyn or Irma. Game start times are listed (we typically need to be there 2 hours ahead of game start time and we are typically there for 1 hour after the game.  e.g. where start time is 7:30 we start at 5:30).  We have 4 regular season games left before we get into the playoffs. 

We still need volunteers for the following games:  

Saturday, September 6 – game start time 3:00 p.m. Banjo Bowl (we may be asked to be there 3-4 hours ahead of the game) 

Saturday, September 27 -  game start time 2:00 p.m.

Play off games - We have to wait for the season to unfold before we will know if we will be hosting any playoff games

Sunday, November 16 the GREY CUP will be played Winnipeg.  This will be a BIG ONE so mark it in your calendar if you are able to work.

* West Broadway Ministry is no longer providing meals to their guests.  They do provide a take and go bag lunch.  For that purpose, they only need sandwich fixings (canned meat, tuna, peanut butter, etc,) granola bars, and fruit cups. Please adjust your donations in the grocery cart accordingly.  Thank you!

Opportunities to serve: There are many volunteer opportunities in the ministry at Trinity. If you are able to offer the gift of time, please let us know. Week of August 18, 2025

Scriptures for this week:

Jeremiah 1:4–10; Psalm 71:1–6; Hebrews 12:18–29 ; Luke 13:10–17

To Ponder:

“Now he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath. And just then there appeared a woman with a spirit that had crippled her for eighteen years. She was bent over and was quite unable to stand up straight. When Jesus saw her, he called her over and said, ‘Woman, you are set free from your ailment.’ When he laid his hands on her, immediately she stood up straight and began praising God.” — Luke 13:10–13

A Brief Reflection

God’s call is never limited by our excuses, our frailty, or the barriers imposed by others. Jeremiah thought he was too young; the psalmist clung to God as a fortress in the midst of vulnerability; the writer of Hebrews described God’s kingdom as unshakeable fire. In Jesus, we see this same truth embodied: on the Sabbath, even when others resisted, he saw the bent-over woman, called her by name, and restored her.

The good news is this: God continues to call us to see beyond human rules and boundaries, to trust in God’s strength when we feel small, and to join in the healing work that sets people free.

You may want to ponder

·         In what ways do I, like the bent-over woman, long for freedom, healing, or release?

·         Who in my community today is “bent over” by burdens that I may overlook, and how might I respond with compassion?

·         Where do I sense God’s “unshakeable kingdom” breaking into my daily life?

Let us pray

God of healing and hope,

you lift the lowly, strengthen the fearful,

and set people free through Christ.

Lift us, too— from excuses, fears, and heavy burdens.

Open our eyes to the bent low in our world,

and give us courage and compassion to join in your work of love.

Send us out with your Spirit,

trusting in your unshakable kingdom

and your boundless love.

Welcome back to Damber who spent the week as a commissioner to the 45^th General Council of the United Church of Canada held in Calgary. Rev. Dr. Kimberly Heath was elected and installed as the 45^th Moderator of the United Church of Canada at the General Council meetings held last week in Calgary. Habitat for Humanity – This is the last week for donations of baked goods (nut free), fresh fruit (washed and wrapped), granola bars or chips. If you have any questions or need pick up please call Janet Murray at 204-269-7452. Thank you for your help on this project.

Summer time means a building blitz for Habitat for Humanity. We will be collecting baked goods, fresh fruit, granola bars and bags of chips for a coffee break August 11. 
All baking must be nut free and individually wrapped. Cookies can be in packs of 2. Fruit should be washed and wrapped.

We will have a collection from July 27 – August 10. Thank you for your support.
