Scripture to Ponder
Theme: PRIDE Sunday
Seventh Week after Easter
Scripture reading for this week: Acts 16:16-34; Psalm 97; Revelation 22:12-14, 16-17, 20-21; John 17:20-26
Scripture to Ponder: John 17:20–26
“My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me… that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you.” (John 17:20-21)
In John 17:20–21, Jesus prays, “that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you.”
His prayer is for unity — not uniformity — a unity rooted in love, not sameness.
As we mark Pride Sunday, we’re reminded that love has the power to transform hearts.
When families choose love over fear, parents over time become advocates for their LGBTQ2S+ children.
When churches open their doors wider, communities become places of healing instead of harm.
It begins at home — showing acceptance, especially when it’s hard. Society may take years to fully understand, but we can lead by example, honoring the sacred humanity in everyone, including LGBTQ2S+ and Two-Spirit individuals.
They are born human, just like us — with equal rights, dignity, and the image of God within. Who are we to judge or discard what God has made? We are not called to change others. We are called to love.
As followers of Christ, let us reflect the heart of Jesus — loving without judgment, welcoming without fear, and embracing all as beloved members of God’s family.
Let us pray …
Lord, help us to love like You — not just in words, but in the way we treat others every day.
Teach us to open our hearts to those who have been pushed aside, to listen with patience and compassion, and to let go of fear when we encounter someone different from us.
Let our homes, our communities, and our churches be places where everyone feels safe, seen, and valued.
Remind us that Your love includes everyone, and that our job isn’t to judge or fix people, but simply to love them as they are — just as You love us. Amen.
