Scripture for Reflection
Sixth Week After Easter
Scripture for the week: Acts 16:9–15; Psalm 67; John 14:23–29 or John 5:1–9
Scripture for Reflection: Acts 16:9–15
“The Lord opened her heart to pay attention to what was said by Paul. When she and her household were baptized, she urged us, saying, ‘If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come and stay at my home.’ And she prevailed upon us.”
Lydia’s story is a turning point in the early church. A businesswoman, Gentile, and woman of influence, Lydia wasn’t a preacher but had a heart open to God. She listened to Paul’s message and responded not only with faith but with immediate hospitality. She opened her home to Paul and his companions, becoming a foundation for the Gospel’s spread into Europe.
This moment reminds us that the Gospel spreads outward through people—through open hearts, acts of courage, and homes that welcome others. Lydia was already a seeker, but when she heard the Gospel, something new stirred within her.
Reflection:
What might God be seeking to open in our hearts today? Are we listening to the Spirit’s call to go deeper or respond more fully? And when good news comes—especially from outside our usual circles—do we make room for it, like Lydia did?
Let’s pray…
Gracious God,
You met Lydia in an ordinary place and did something extraordinary.
Open our hearts, our homes, and our lives to receive Your Word and welcome others in love.
When You knock, help us open the door.
When You speak, help us listen.
When You send, help us go.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
