Fifth Week of Lent
Scriptures for this week:
Isaiah 43:16–21; Psalm 126; Philippians 3:4–14; John 12:1–8
Scriptures to Ponder:
Isaiah 43:19 – “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”
John 12:3 – “Then Mary took about a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus’ feet and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.”
As we near the end of this Lenten season, we are invited to reflect on the path ahead. Both Isaiah and John give us glimpses of God’s new work in our lives—Isaiah speaks of making a way where there seems to be no way, and John captures the intimate act of devotion through Mary’s sacrifice. Together, they remind us that new beginnings often require a willingness to surrender the old, to pour out what is precious, and to embrace the unknown with faith.
God is always doing something new in our lives, but can we perceive it? Are we willing to make space for God’s new path, even when it requires letting go of the past or giving up what seems most precious? As we anticipate the coming of Easter and the new life that Christ’s resurrection brings, this is a time to reflect on how we might respond to God’s invitation to a new season of growth and transformation.
Let us pray…
Loving God,
We lift up the people of Myanmar affected by the recent earthquake. Bring comfort to the grieving, healing to the wounded, and strength to those serving in the recovery. In the midst of this devastation, help us to see your new work, even in the wilderness. Just as Mary poured out her precious perfume, may we pour out our compassion and resources for those in need.
As we anticipate the resurrection and the new life you bring, teach us to trust that you are making a way through the storms of life. May your peace and restoration flow in Myanmar and all around the world, guiding us toward the path ahead. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
