Scripture to Ponder & Prayer

Week of January 13, 2025

Scriptures this week:

 Isaiah 62:1–5; Psalm 36:5–10; 1 Corinthians 12:1-11 & John 2:1-11

 To Ponder:

 1 Corinthians 12:1-11 & John 2:1-11

In John’s account of the wedding at Cana, ordinary water is transformed into extraordinary wine by Jesus. This act of transformation mirrors the gifts each of us carries—ordinary in our eyes but extraordinary when empowered by the Holy Spirit. As Paul writes in 1 Corinthians, each gift, no matter how small, is given for the common good and is essential to the body of Christ.

The invitation to contribute doesn’t end after an initial welcome. We are continually called to share our gifts, and in doing so, we find belonging. Erik Carter’s work emphasizes that for true belonging, each person must feel needed.[1] By identifying and celebrating everyone’s unique gifts, we create a community where all can contribute and experience a sense of purpose.

Next Sunday, January 26th, our committees and teams will showcase their tables to introduce the congregation to how they use their gifts for communal support and ministry at Trinity. They will also invite you to join their teams. How are you planning to be part of their team? Are there any committees or teams you are interested in? How can you contribute your gifts to support and strengthen the community?

 We must ask ourselves:

How does our community honor diverse gifts?

Do we make space for everyone to contribute, regardless of how their gifts appear?

Do we express gratitude for each gift, no matter how small?

In Christ, the ordinary becomes extraordinary, and everyone is invited to share in that transformation.

 Prayer:

Lord, help us to recognize and celebrate the diverse gifts within our community. May we create a space where everyone feels needed and valued, and where ordinary acts become extraordinary through your Spirit. Amen.
