Oak Bank United Church is preparing to welcome a Syrian refugee family of six on August 27th. They are currently in urgent need of affordable rental accommodation in the Fort Richmond area, where they have relatives. The church is reaching out to see if anyone in the congregation might be able to assist in locating rental properties or offer any support in the form of household items, furniture, or financial contributions. Understanding that the congregation may also be focused on supporting their new Minister and his family at this time, they would greatly appreciate it if this appeal could be shared within the community. Thank you for your consideration and generosity. Please contact the Trinity office tuc@mymts.net or 204-269-1632 and we will pass on any information. Donations can be dropped off at Trinity. For larger furniture donations, Trinity will arrange for pick up by Oak Bank United.

From Damber: Scripture to Ponder & Prayer
August 25, 2024 Fourteenth after Pentecost, Proper 16,
—————–
Scripture Readings: 1 Kings 8:(1, 6, 10–11), 22–30, 41–43; Psalm 84 (VU pp. 800–801) ; Ephesians 6:10–20; John 6:56–69
Scripture to Ponder: 1 Kings 8:(1, 6, 10–11), 22–30, 41–43 and Psalm 84
The scriptures might be explored through the theme of God’s dwelling place. As pointed out at the conclusion of the Kings reading, God’s place is one of inclusivity (welcoming and listening to the foreigner).
The psalm continues this theme of God’s dwelling place. Sanctuaries have been considered God’s sacred living space. What does it mean that church sanctuaries are being repurposed into coffee shops or bed and breakfasts? What if the next generation doesn’t imagine God’s dwelling place the same as we do? What if they need to create their own sacred space for God?
Prayer
Gracious and Loving God,
We marvel at Your inclusive presence, welcoming all into Your sacred space. As we see our church sanctuaries transform into new spaces, help us recognize Your dwelling beyond physical walls. Guide us to honor these changes and support future generations in creating their own meaningful spaces for You.
May we always find Your love and grace wherever we go, and may we remain open to the new ways You are present among us.
In Your name we pray,
Amen.
