Moment for December 19, 2023

Thursday December 21st at 7pm – Longest Night of the Year worship service – shared leadership with Jennifer from Good Shepherd – a holy time for a moment of peace, a holy time to remember those who have died, a holy time to mourn our losses and pray for each other. Candles, music by Second Chance, quiet moments. Come and be …

This Sunday, December 24th, we celebrate Christmas Eve at 10:45am and 7pm in person with the same service at both times. The recorded Christmas Eve service will be available on Thursday, in the email.

A message from the Profile Team:

We are asking members of the Trinity United Church to consider the opportunity to be on the Search team. The Search Team will be responsible for reviewing applicants and interviewing for the position of Minister. The Board asks you to think about this over the advent season. If you have questions as you ponder this,  do not hesitate to reach out and ask questions to Barbara Tallman or Terry DeLong (contacts below). A deadline of January 8th has been set to receive the names of those interested in being on the Search Team. Search Team members are required to attend a mandatory education session via Zoom on January 13, 2023, from 830 am to 1230 pm.  Search Team members are approved at a congregational meeting.  The expected date of this congregational meeting is January 17, 2023.  More information on the congregational meeting is forthcoming.

Please contact us if you have questions:

Merry Christmas and Best Wishes for a Happy 2024 to our Trinity Staff. One of Trinity’s traditions over the years has been to recognize our much-appreciated staff members during the Christmas season. On behalf of our congregation, Ministry and Personnel Committee members present Christmas greeting cards and Gift Cards at this time to Elizabeth, Irma, Héctor, Tierney, Samantha and Kathy. May the Blessings of God’s Love and Presence be richly experienced by all.

The Property Committee is pleased to announce that this week Trinity United received a grant of $45,000 from the Sir Thomas Cropo Foundation Inc to help with the washroom renovation project! This adds to the $60,000 from Winnipeg Foundation received earlier this year and the $50,000 received from the City of Winnipeg by RKNS means we are well on our way to securing funding for this important renovation. If you’d like to know more about Tom Cropo’s legacy of support to the community, please visit their website: https://www.cropofoundation.org/

Outreach projects for Christmas: thank you to all who donated items for local organizations! 12 bags of items went to the Miracle Store; more than 2 very full boxes of food items went to local schools for their hampers; a full box of warm socks and underwear went to Velma’s house; and 41 pairs of mittens, 16 neck warmers and 54 hats went to Dalhousie and Prairie Sunrise schools! Plus a full cart of groceries and items went to West Broadway! God’s love spread all over!

Scriptures for this week: Isaiah 9:2-7; Psalm 96; Titus 2:11-14; Luke 2:1-14

Scripture to ponder: 126:1 It seemed like a dream, too good to be true, when God returned Zion’s exiles. We laughed, we sang, we couldn’t believe our good fortune. We were the talk of the nations—“God was wonderful to them!” God was wonderful to us; we are one happy people.

Prayer:

Image of Iona Abbey at night. Text that says 'Help us to please you, Wise God, not by reciting all the verses we have memorised, all the theology we have learned, all the knowledge we have attained. But by living lives of kindness, of justice, of love- for these are the signs of true holiness, the signs we see in the One who came for us that first Advent so long ago.
