Today is a day of prayer for peace and candle lighting at 5:30pm across the country; here’s the link: The United Church of Canada Joins Day of Prayer and Fasting on October 17 | The United Church of Canada (united-church.ca)

A Congregational meeting has been called for Trinity United Church on Sunday November 5th, immediately following worship to review and approve Trinity’s “Structure and Governance and Policy and Procedures Manual”. Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend. This is the first notice of the meeting.

Thank you to everyone who offered their gifts of food for West Broadway and money for Camp Morgan. We have delivered more than 2 carts full of food to West Broadway Community Ministry and collected more than $225 for Camp Morgan. It truly was a thanksgiving for our blessings and shared with others.

Sunday October 22nd: Sunday School begins today with Angela and Tracy leading our young people (and their parents) in the lower hall! It’s Second Chance Sunday! Fellowship is providing a “Soup and Bun” lunch following worship and …

Save the date SundayOctober 22 following worship

With Rev. Elizabeth Brown’s retirement at year end, the United Church of Canada and the Prairie to Pine Region, requires that we create a Trinity Church Profile team and complete several things as part of the process. A “Church Profile Team ” has been formed consisting of Charles Powell, Nancy DeLong, Barb Tallman, Ross Tallman and  Dale Kendel (acting as chair). The purpose of the team is to create a Faith Profile for Trinity United Church that expresses the needs, the wants and the wishes of Trinity. This is Step #1, before the search and hiring process for a new Minister can occur.

Step#2: a Congregational Consultation will be held on Sunday October 22 after our regular service. A “Soup and Bun”Lunch will be provided, thanks to the Fellowship Committee.  We will be finished by 1:30. Please plan to attend.

Over the past couple of weeks ,we have been sharing some questions that we want you to think about. So far we have asked –

1. What does Trinity United Church mean to me?

2. What song describes Trinity United Church (mission and purpose)?

3.What do you consider to be the best accomplishments of Trinity United Church in the past few years?

If you wish to contact any members of the Church Profile Committee use the following emails: Nancy DeLong – nanter1@shaw.ca; Charlie Powell – judy_charliep@hotmail.com; Dale Kendel – bdkendel@shaw.ca; Barb Tallman – barbara1.tallman@gmail.com; Ross Tallman – ross.tallman@gmail.com

A message from the Board: As we move into the fall, the board is grateful for all gifts given. At the annual meeting, Trinity committed to keep you informed of our financial situation throughout the year. Here is the update for the end of August:

Jan to August Income: $138,880.67

Jan to August Expenses: $165,961.65

Jan to August Deficit: ($27,080.98)

This Year-to-date deficit is higher than the budgeted YTD deficit (which was around -$20k), but there is still Bomber money to be received, and givings tend to increase as we move into the Christmas season.  We continue to be vigilant in keeping expenses in check, and we believe that Trinity is financially viable in the short to medium term.  However, there is a slow downward trend of givings which will need to be addressed longer term, either through increased fundraising or increased givings.

Community Garden: On Saturday, members of the Garden Committee met along with a number of gardeners to clean up for the winter. Thanks to Ed for arranging for the refuse truck for us to load; it was all taken away in one load and the compost bin was cleaned out and spread across the gardens! Thanks to everyone who participated! Please see the picture attached!

Save the date: Praise and Worship service November 25th at 7pm!

Opportunities to help out at Trinity:

We are looking for a few people to help prepare and serve communion. We’ll provide the training and you’ll work in teams; if anyone is interested, they can contact Ruth at 204- 253-0274 or 204-290-3050. It is a once a month commitment, on a rotating basis.

Would you like to read scripture and/or create and write prayers for Sunday Worship? Please be in touch with Irma for more information.

BOOKS!  BOOKS!  BOOKS!
Are your shelves cluttered with your summer “beach reads”?  Or are you looking to stock up for the coming winter months?  Bring your books to Trinity during the month of October and take a few home – “Pay what you please”. Books change every day so check back often! Tell your friends who may not attend Trinity; the table will be set up on some Saturdays as well as during the week (the church is open Mon-Fri, 9am to 1pm). Thank you.  Isabel Tymofichuk
