Trinity United worship for Sunday September 18, 2022

We hold Meryle and Ben Berg’s sister Susan in our prayers as she journeys through cancer and is in hospice. 

We hold in prayer the family of Alice Allen on her death early this week. We will post details about her service in the next little while. 

The people of The United Church of Canada express our profound grief at the tragic events in James Smith Cree Nation and the nearby village of Weldon, Saskatchewan. Moderator Carmen Lansdowne, expressed her pain on hearing of these attacks and committed her ongoing prayers for “the families of the victims, and survivors as they deal with the resulting trauma.” Read the full news story.  

Members of The United Church of Canada join with others in Canada, Bermuda, the Commonwealth, and many other parts of the world in mourning the death of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. Queen Elizabeth was 96 years old. Read the full news story and prayer.

We are pleased that Irma Nadeau will be attending the Open Hearts, Open Minds, Open Doors Retreat in Ontario later this month. She will be absent from work beginning on September 14 through to September 19, inclusive.

Office hours return to regular hours (9am to 1pm, Monday to Friday).

Trinity Walkers:  September 20th. Let’s walk Lindenwood Park in the visitor parking lot of my condo complex 873 Waverley St. All walks start at 9:30. If this time is not suitable for you, contact Maryanne directly and she will arrange another time. Please let her know directly if you plan on joining or if you have any questions.

Holy Yoga: Saturdays at 10am on Zoom, followed by fellowship coffee.

Bible Study: Mondays at 7-8pm on Zoom.

The Big Question: will begin in October; more details to follow

SSCFF: Tuesdays at 1:30-3pm – fitness/tai chi; Wednesdays at 10:30-11:30am – Yoga – more details to follow

Next Sunday, September 25th, we honour Orange Shirt Day/Day of Truth and Reconciliation at Trinity’s worship service. Wear your orange shirt to remember and honour the children who attended residential schools and we’ll take a group picture to send to the United Church of Canada to show our support.

There are many events that can be accessed online and in person:

Walking the Paths: From the Truth of Residential School to Reconciliation. Sept 18-25 at Westworth United Church, Wpg. The week includes:

  • an evening with Cree Elder Gloria Cook called “Our Journey as Cree People”
  • a week-long exhibit of photographs taken at the former Brandon Indian Residential School.

There is no cost to attend because of grants.

 We Are All Treaty People. Join us on Sunday September 18 from 1:00 to 4:00, at the Forks for an afternoon of music, crafts, good food, and learning.   Indigenous, Settler and Newcomer people will meet together to explore what it means to be a Treaty Partner, through entertainment and fun, family – friendly activities.  This event is a partnership with the Manitoba Treaty Commission, faith groups and Kairos.  The United Church is a sponsoring partner.  There is no charge for this event. Click here to view the poster.

Wednesday, September 28, 6-7pm, we invite you to join Leeann Shimoday, Independent First Nations Jordan’s Principle Coordinator, in a Zoom discussion of Jordan’s Principles. Leeann will be teaching on the background of and the ins and outs of Jordan’s Princliples and answering any questions that come up. This free event is open to anyone but may be particularly helpful to parents/caregivers of Indigenous children and people who work with Indigenous children. You must register to participate in this event

94 Calls in 94 Days, September 12- 15 December, online for everyone. #94in94 is a social media campaign intended to increase awareness of and responses to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 94 calls to action. The National Center for Truth and Reconciliation, Circles for Reconciliation, and Reconciliation Thunder will be emailing and posting one Call to Action for each day between September 12 and December 15 2022. Click here for more detailsFill out their form to get updates and share how you or your community of faith plan to support this initiative this year! 

Trinity continues to follow the guidelines that the board prayerfully put into place on February 23, 2022. Masks and hand sanitizing along with safe distancing is required for all in person gatherings.
