We hold in prayer the family of Alice Allen on her death early this week. We will post details about her service in the next little while.
The people of The United Church of Canada express our profound grief at the tragic events in James Smith Cree Nation and the nearby village of Weldon, Saskatchewan. We are pleased that Irma Nadeau will be attending the Open Hearts, Open Minds, Open Doors Retreat in Ontario later this month. She will be absent from work beginning on September 14 through to September 19, inclusive.

Next Sunday, September 25th, we honour Orange Shirt Day/Day of Truth and Reconciliation at Trinity’s worship service. Wear your orange shirt to remember and honour the children who attended residential schools and we’ll take a group picture to send to the United Church of Canada to show our support.
There are many events that can be accessed online and in person:
: Walking the Paths: From the Truth of Residential School to Reconciliation. Sept 18-25 at Westworth United Church, Wpg. The week includes:
- an evening with Cree Elder Gloria Cook called “Our Journey as Cree People”
- a week-long exhibit of photographs taken at the former Brandon Indian Residential School.
There is no cost to attend because of grants.
We Are All Treaty People. Join us on Sunday September 18 from 1:00 to 4:00, at the Forks for an afternoon of music, crafts, good food, and learning. Indigenous, Settler and Newcomer people will meet together to explore what it means to be a Treaty Partner, through entertainment and fun, family – friendly activities. This event is a partnership with the Manitoba Treaty Commission, faith groups and Kairos. The United Church is a sponsoring partner. There is no charge for this event. Click here to view the poster.

Wednesday, September 28, 6-7pm, we invite you to join Leeann Shimoday, Independent First Nations Jordan’s Principle Coordinator, in a Zoom discussion of Jordan’s Principles. Leeann will be teaching on the background of and the ins and outs of Jordan’s Princliples and answering any questions that come up. This free event is open to anyone but may be particularly helpful to parents/caregivers of Indigenous children and people who work with Indigenous children. You must register to participate in this event.

94 Calls in 94 Days, September 12- 15 December, online for everyone. #94in94 is a social media campaign intended to increase awareness of and responses to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 94 calls to action. The National Center for Truth and Reconciliation, Circles for Reconciliation, and Reconciliation Thunder will be emailing and posting one Call to Action for each day between September 12 and December 15 2022.
