Scripture to ponder: Proverbs 25: 13-14: The right word at the right time is like precious gold set in silver. Listening to good advice is worth much more than jewelry made of gold. A messenger you can trust is just as refreshing as cool water in summer.

Scripture for Sunday August 28th – Jeremiah 2:4-13; Psalm 81:1, 10-16; Hebrews 12:1-8, 15-16; Luke 14:1, 7-14

Prayer: God of Extravagant Welcome, like flickering candles on a table, the soul of each person illumines the heart of our gathered community, and in the radiance of the whole, we recognize your presence. Filled with your Spirit of Love, may we reflect your gracious welcome to allAmen.

from p. 126, 128 in Prayers for All Seaons, Year C, edited by Mike Schwartzentruber and Ellen Turnbull
