Moment from Trinity – December 8, 2020

Here is the short video from Elizabeth to accompany this message; it is the daily advent recording mentioned below for Tuesday of enceinte: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DlfynG9y-ZE

Enceinteunited church advent devotions during a pandemic”Enceinte (/änˈsant/) is an ancient word with two meanings: pregnant, and a protected enclosure (see image attached). As we journey toward the birth of Jesus during these COVID-19 times, the devotions offer a fold in your day to reflect and restore. The daily devotions from Monday to Friday are an opportunity to stop for a few minutes in your day and share in the reflection offered by the leader.  Saturday the devotions are longer and meditative in tone and will conclude with communion. We have joined with United Church in Meadowood, St. Mary’s Road, Fort Garry, Churchill Park, and Spirit Path United Churches to bring you this daily Advent reflection. This 3-5 minute video will be sent out each day (Monday to Saturday) to all who request it. Send a note to the church office (tuc@mymts.net) to be added to the list.

Christmas is right around the corner! thanks to everyone who volunteered to be the voices to tell the story on Christmas eve.

Christmas Choir! Bert is inviting anyone who would like to contribute their voice to the Christmas eve service. Everything is done in your home and he’ll send you everything you need to record your voice for this virtual choir. choirdir.tuc@mymts.net

Do you have a nativity scene in your home? Would you like to share a picture of it with Trinity? As you prepare your home for Christmas, take a picture of your nativity scene and send it (and a few words about the story attached to it) to the church office; we’ll use it in the power point each week.

Please have any donations and expenses in to the church by Sunday December 27th for this year.

Here are the readings for this Sunday December 13, 2020, the third Sunday of Advent, and the one we’re focusing on is in bold: Isaiah 61:1-4, 8-11; Psalm 126; 1 Thessalonians 5:16-24; John 1:6-8, 19-28.

The Outreach Committee has sent out some ideas for Christmas giving; we hope you consider giving in these ways rather than in the building as we have always done. If you’d like to donate and need some help, please be in touch. Thank you!

We are collecting fruit and granola bars for West Broadway Community Ministry AND mitts and hats for Dalhousie school. The cart will be outside to collect items Thursday and Sunday 9-11am. Mitts and hats for the school need to be in by Sunday December 13th.

Church Calendars are here! $7 for one; $20 for three. Please call Gerta 204 275 2914 or email (gdejong@mymts.net) to order your calendar.

Stewardship packages Thank you to all who have responded to the stewardship campaign. We’ve sent a friendly reminder for those who may have lost their package in the many emails we all receive! Please consider your commitment to Trinity and return the form either by email, mail or phone. If you’d like a 3/4 statement of your givings, please contact the office (tuc@mymts.net) or leave a message on the phone (204 269 1632).

Scripture for the day: (Isaiah 61:1-3) The Spirit of God is on me because God anointed me. God sent me to preach good news to the poor, heal the heartbroken, announce freedom to all captives, pardon all prisoners. God sent me to announce the year grace and to comfort all who mourn, to care for the needs of all, to give them bouquets of roses instead of ashes, messages of joy instead of news of doom, a praising heart instead of a tired spirit.

Prayer for the week: Loving God, as we prepare for the days and season ahead, may we be open to holy moments of joy all around us. Amen.

May blessing, peace and the knowledge that we are not alone on this journey; may God be a part of our week as we wander through our challenging days and evenings, knowing the spirit of God is part of all our experiences! May we all remember God in a way that keeps us going and be strong and be kind, loving and compassionate.

Elizabeth

Please note: because of the Provincial Health order on November 10th, the Executive decided to continue to postpone in person, indoor worship, and close the building to all user and church groups; staff will be in for specific tasks but mainly working from home; all home visits are postponed until further notice. Be safe and be well.
