Moment from Trinity – November 24, 2020

Here is the short video to accompany this message: https://youtu.be/qXoD3VgpSy4

Because of the Provincial Health order on November 10th, the Executive decided to continue to postpone in person, indoor worship, and close the building to all user and church groups; staff will be in for specific tasks but mainly working from home; all home visits are postponed until further notice. Be safe and be well.

Enceinteunited church advent devotions during a pandemic”Enceinte (/änˈsant/) is an ancient word with two meanings: pregnant, and a protected enclosure (see image attached). As we journey toward the birth of Jesus during these COVID-19 times, the devotions offer a fold in your day to reflect and restore. The daily devotions from Monday to Friday are an opportunity to stop for a few minutes in your day and share in the reflection offered by the leader.  Saturday the devotions are longer and meditative in tone and will conclude with communion. We have joined with United Church in Meadowood, St. Mary’s Road, Fort Garry, Churchill Park, and Spirit Path United Churches to bring you this daily Advent reflection. This 3-5 minute video will be sent out each day (Monday to Saturday) to all who request it. Send a note to the church office (tuc@mymts.net) to be added to the list.

The Outreach Committee has sent out some ideas for Christmas giving; we hope you consider giving in these ways rather than in the building as we have always done. If you’d like to donate and need some help, please be in touch. Thank you!

Christmas is right around the corner! We are planning a flexible worship service that can be used in a variety of ways. There are many “parts” to add your voice to the service. Scripture reading, reading a part (for example: Mary and a sheep), saying a prayer, taking part in the Advent candle lighting – all from your own home! You’ll record your part, send it in and we’ll gather all the recordings in our Christmas eve service. If you have a cell phone, tablet or computer, you can take part. If you’ve never done this before, we’ll walk you through the process – you’ll be surprised at how easy it is! Please be in touch with Elizabeth to help make Trinity’s Christmas eve service special this year.

Do you have a nativity scene in your home? Would you like to share a picture of it with Trinity? As you prepare your home for Christmas, take a picture of your nativity scene and send it (and a few words about the story attached to it) to the church office; we’ll use it in the power point each week.

Here are the readings for this Sunday November 29, 2020, the first Sunday of Advent, and the one we’re focusing on is in bold: Isaiah 64:1-9; Psalm 80:1-7, 17-19; I Corinthians 1:1-9; Mark 13:24-37.

Scripture for the day: (Isaiah 64: 6-8) “Still, God, you are our God. We’re the clay and you’re our potter: All of us are what you made us, beautifully made. Don’t be too angry with us, God, when we make mistakes. Keep in mind, please, we are your people—all of us..”

Prayer for the week: Loving God, as we prepare for the days and season ahead, may we be open to holy moments of hope all around us. Amen.

May blessing, peace and the knowledge that we are not alone on this journey; may God be a part of our week as we wander through our challenging days and evenings, knowing the spirit of God is part of all our experiences! May we all remember God in a way that keeps us going and be strong and be kind, loving and compassionate.

Elizabeth
