Here is the short video to accompany this message: https://youtu.be/VG028yQH8oQ

Here are the readings for this Sunday September 22nd and the one we’re focusing on is in bold: Exodus 17:1-7; Psalm 78:1-4,12-16; Philippians 2:1-13; Matthew 21:23-32

Items to note:
Bible Study: Monday evenings 7-8pm
The Big Question: Sunday Oct 4, 9:30-10:15am
Communion: Sunday Oct 4th recorded worship, bring a piece of bread, cracker, bun, and juice (grape, orange, water) to celebrate with us
Wednesday Sept 30th in the evening: come help us load the compost and meet the Garden Committee and some of our gardeners; trucks and/or trailers welcome!

We send blessings to Good Shepherd Anglican church as they celebrate this Sunday, Sept 27th, their first indoor worship service. They, like us, will be evaluating the service.

We watched and heard the Moderator of the United Church of Canada, Rev Richard Bott, speak to us about the call for Guaranteed Livable Income and this week, we are given this prayer to use as our devotion:

God of all peoples, Creator of a grand cosmos and tiny infants Source of nurture and creation, You call us into relationship with each other. We stand in our own judgement when we turn away from those who suffer. In the midst of affluence and pandemic we hear the cries of those who struggle to survive. Open our ears to those voices, and our hearts to your persuasive Spirit. May we see the needs of our neighbours and advocate for the fair distribution of resources. May we learn the politics of justice and adequacy that we may act with justice, love kindness and walk with humility. Today we remember all who struggle to survive. We specifically hold in our hearts low-income racialized communities who have experienced the most challenges with COVID. We pray for our political leaders that they act with compassion as they are asked to give leadership to implement a guaranteed livable income. Remind us, Holy Wisdom, that through your love, we encounter in each person, friend or stranger, Christ’s light and love in the world. Grant that we may promote the justice and acceptance that enables peace, a true shalom. Help us to remember that we are one world and one family. Amen

— Rev. Susan Eagle, Chair, Shining Waters Social and Ecological Justice Commission, with Barry Rieder, Jane Finch Community Ministry.

Scripture for the day: (Psalm 78:3) What we have heard and known, what our parents have told us, we will not hide from their grandchildren, but declare to the next generation.

Prayer for the week: Creating God, as the seasons change, the winds blow, the sun shines, the rain falls, we are very aware of your spirit moving through our days, evenings and nights. We love how you accompany us on our journey of faith, today and always. Amen.

May blessing, peace and the knowledge that we are not alone on this journey; may God be a part of our week as we wander through our challenging days and evenings, knowing the spirit of God is part of all our experiences! May we all remember God in a way that keeps us going and be strong and be kind, loving and compassionate.

Elizabeth
