Sunday Happenings

Scripture Readings for the week ending October 28 – Job 42:1-6, 10-17, Psalm 34: 1-8, (19-22), Jeremiah 31:7-9, Psalm 126, Hebrews 7:23-28, Mark 10:46-52. Monday Bible Study is at 7:15pm in the Narthex and Wednesday Bible Study is at 9:30am in the Chapel.


New Announcements

The Outreach Committee would like to thank the congregation for your generous donations to the food drive for local Yazidi families. The food has been picked up and delivered and will make a real difference to the recipients!

The Worship Committee invites you to see the photo montage created for Milly’s retirement gathering! If you missed seeing it that day or would like to see it again, please stay after worship on October 21st and it will be played on the power point in the sanctuary.

Remembrance Sunday: this year Remembrance Day falls on a Sunday. During worship, as we remember the veterans who served, we’d like to honour those of our community specifically by showing their photo. If you have a picture of a loved one who served in the war, bring it to the church for us to scan and have it as part of the remembrance service. Thank you for sharing your loved one’s story with us.

Observer: It’s time to subscribe or renew your subscription to The Observer for 2019.  Group rates are $25 for the year.  Please make cheques payable to Trinity United Church.  A table will be set up in the Narthex once again in November to facilitate the process.

Ambassadors: The Fellowship Committee is looking for volunteers to act as Sunday morning ambassadors –if you are interested in learning more about this program – please contact Bev Wiens – 204-981-6683.

From the Stewardship Committee: the Stewardship campaign will run until Sunday November 4th using the theme “Loving our Neighbour” This year everyone with an email address will receive a package by email this week; you may print off the donation form, fill it in and drop it off or mail it to the church. If you’d like to receive a hard copy, these will be available for pick up in the narthex. Thanks for your response to our annual campaign!

**Wednesday Community Lunches** Good Shepherd is inviting contributions of food (soup & bread) for our weekly lunch at 12:30pm. In addition to Good Shepherd & Trinity folks, several Fort Richmond students share in this meal and at this point we are finding ourselves in need of assistance to continue this valuable community gathering. A sign up schedule in the narthex has been created for 2 weekly soups (1 regular & 1 gluten-free) and bread (2 regular & 1 small gluten free). Please speak to any of Jennifer Sisson, Wendy Wylie, Ann Timonin or Sandi Vincent if you have questions. Thank you!

Fort Garry United Church invites you to two fall events: 7th Annual “All Handmade” Craft & Bake Sale Saturday, October 20, 10:00 am–3:00 p.m. and “Around The World In Song”Fundraiser Concert Saturday, October 27, 7:00 p.m. Posters with further information are posted in narthex.

Note from Outreach: Kathy Knowles will be speaking during our church service on October 28 about the Osu Children’s Library Fund, a Canadian based charity founded in 1991 to bring literacy, books and the joy of reading to children and adults in Ghana, West Africa, they may not have otherwise had. They also provide cultural dancing, drama, high school scholarships and food programs. “She is proof that the vision and actions of just one person can make a tremendous difference.” – Former Governor General Michaille Jean

South Side Fellowship will meet Tuesday Oct. 23 in the Sanctuary.
They will be announcing an exciting new program format beginning MONDAY, Nov. 5! Watch for it!


Trinity’s Repeat Announcements

One umbrella was left in the church after the BBQ. If you misplaced your umbrella, please take a look outside Elizabeth’s office.

Visiting Trinity Folks We are looking for a few more visitors (men and women) for our Caring Connections program. If you would enjoy visiting our elders in their homes or facilities and you have 2 hours a month, this program is ideal. Please speak to Elizabeth if you’d like more information or would like to volunteer.

Bomber Fundraiser! Only one game (and 3 people needed for Oct 26th) left in the season of parking cars and directing people at the Bomber games! Thank you to everyone who has volunteered so far. If you’d like to volunteer and haven’t done this before, speak to Marilyn Loat or Elizabeth. Everyone who has taken ANY training is fine to volunteer!

ALF youth retreat, Oct. 19 to 21 at Central United in Brandon. For youth grade 7 to 12 with a possible young adult component. Please look for more info at this link.  look for an info document called “What on Earth is ALF?”

In Case of an Emergency We have an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) located to the left of the exit doors to the parking lot, a First Aid Kit, a walker, and a Comfort Care Kit located on the shelf to the left of the large entry doors to the sanctuary.

We need your help Please sign-up on the bright green poster in the coat area for Sundays to usher, greet, read scripture, and lead the prayers. Thank you for being involved in your church offering your time and talents.

Bulletin Sponsorship List for 2018 is up on the bulletin board. Please consider sponsoring a bulletin for any of the dates listed or sponsor a bulletin to mark a memoriam or special occasion in your life. Bulletin cover sponsorships range between $30.00 and $50.00; both the Easter and Christmas bulletins cost $50.00.

Electronic Recycling You can bring batteries, light bulbs, cords, and any electronics to the church and place them in the marked blue box in the narthex to be properly recycled. Is your old TV too heavy to carry into the church? Just call the church, leave us a message and we will be happy to come and collect it!

New: We will also collect used vehicle oil, filters and anti-freeze; call and we’ll pick it up.

Please discontinue bringing grocery bags for the Food Bank.   We appreciate your response but they are no longer required at this time.
